Activity 3: The Midnight Zone [10 points]
Let’s imagine that the average adult can lift 25 kg and the average child can lift 15 kg. How many adults and children will it take to move the giant squid into its new room at Te Papa? [Note: There is more than one right answer to this question.]
On your blog, tell us how you will solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer. .
The adults are carrying the squid because adults can lift 25kgs,
25x8 = 200kgs, 25x4 = 100kgs. double it to make 400kgs with 16 adults, then add 4 to make 100 more kgs. This is the full equation.
25 x 20 = 500kgs
It's 20 Adults.

Wow, kai pai for using different strategy to work out the equation ‘How many adults will it take to move the giant squid into its new room at Te Papa?’. It is awesome to see that you have taken the time and effort to do the working out yourself, rather than calculating it on a calculator. You’re correct, it would take 20 adults! Imagine if you were to have the kids carry the giant squid, how many would you need then?
Looking forward to hearing back from you, keep up the mahi!
